Jesus Rhythm

I love routine.  I thrive in rhythm.  I think on some level all of us do.  The beating pulse of predictable patterns are like throwing a lasso around the ambiguity of time. A longing hardwired into our God-design.

Even my connection with Christ has a pattern, one I’ve danced to for nearly a decade and a half.  The first hour of my day dedicated to spending time with Scripture, in quiet listening, journaling, and in prayer.  The first day of my week committed to gathering with His Church. His people.

This rhythm is a lifeline to me. A constant that has filled me up and poured me out countless times over.

My Jesus routine.

But the danger of even a healthy routine is losing touch with the “Who.”  Forgetting that Jesus isn’t just something I do.  He is. He’s the essence of life, not just a calendar reminder. He doesn’t want to be part of my routine.  He wants to be the very source of my existence.

As long as the former feeds the latter, I’m going to be just fine.

What about you? Do you have a Jesus routine?
