Career Day

Just finished speaking to my daughter’s 4th grade class for career day.  Always fun to try and explain church planting to a bunch of 10 year olds (most days I’m not sure I understand it myself), and then field questions from the peanut gallery.  It was actually a blast, and the most rewarding part is that my daughter seems genuinely proud to have me as her dad (guess I should probably enjoy that…the teenage years are looming on the horizon).

In response to my trip into 4th grade wonderland, our good friend Lois Solet sent me her definition of church planting to assist my presentation:

You get a crazy idea God wants you to do something radical. You make a crazy decision to quit your nice stable job. You find about 30 other crazy people to join you, and voila…you have a church plant.

Well said Lois.  That may be the best definition I’ve ever heard.  Adding it to my lexicon.

  1. Man, explaining church planting a a 4th grade class would be tough! Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to hear the questions.

And yes, that definition of planting sounds just about right. 🙂

  2. By the way, just saw you’re reading Purple Cow. Is that your first time reading it? Man, the first time I read it I just about highlighted the whole darn book. So much good stuff in there.

Not to mention all your crazy, adoring aunts and uncles being there for the first Sunday of the church plant, and enjoying every minute of God’s presence!
